New Psychosocial Support Services In 2019 To Assist People With Severe Mental Illness.
CSAPHN will be commissioning new psychosocial support services in 2019 to assist people with severe mental illness.
The introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support for people with severe mental illness with an associated psychosocial functional disability that is both significant and enduring. While NDIS services are recommended for such people, there is also a cohort of people with severe mental illness for whom the NDIS was not designed for as their mental illness is more episodic in nature. New psychosocial support services are designed to address the needs of this cohort of people who are not suitable for the NDIS, but who may otherwise ‘fall through the gaps’. New psychosocial services being commissioned by PHNs, aim to provide specialised but less intense psychosocial support that are short term, flexible and linked to individual needs and goals. The aim is to provide targeted support at required points of time, with clients being able to enter and exit the program as and when needed.
