The Immunisation for Health Care Workers in South Australia Policy Directive 2017 was approved on 1 August 2017. This Policy Directive is consistent with those use in other Australian jurisdictions and replaces the Immunisation for Health Care Workers in South Australia 2014 Policy Guideline. The Policy Directive defines the minimum standards in relation to immune status to selected vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) which SA Health services are required to implement in the workplace to minimise the risk of transmission of VPDs.

The Policy Directive applies to all health care workers (HCWs) in SA Health services who have direct or indirect contact with patients, or contact with blood or other body substances from patients in a health care or laboratory setting.
