Delay to Self-collection for Cervix Screening

The Commonwealth has advised that the option for eligible women to self-collect a cervical sample will not be available from 1 December due to delays in the process of accreditation of the tests.

Healthcare providers who conduct cervical screening tests are advised not to offer self-collection to eligible women until further notice.

All other aspects of the renewed National Cervical Screening Program will go ahead as scheduled on 1 December 2017. Healthcare providers are reminded that the MBS item for PAP smears ends at midnight
30/11/17 and the new item number for the new HPV test commences on 1/12/17.
