Video consultations for aged care residents
Do you provide after hours on call to a Residential Aged Care Facility?
Would you like to be paid for providing a video consultation to a Residential Aged Care Facility resident after hours rather than providing ‘free’ telephone advice?
Would you like to become familiar with using SA Health compliant Cisco Jabber video consulting software?
If you answered yes to all the questions above you may be interested
in being involved in a pilot project through the Country SA PHN.
We are looking for GPs and Residential Aged Care Facilities who are interested in participating in a pilot project.
This initiative is for GPs who are on call to provide after-hours consultations via a video link to residents who are in Residential Aged Care Facilities. Country SA PHN will pay an MBS item number equivalent to GPs for the video consultation with participating Residential Aged Care Facilities receiving a one off participation payment.
The resident will be supported by a Registered Nurse without having to leave the facility.
This project is not intended to replace regular face to face or scheduled visits but is offered as an additional method of service delivery.
The positive impacts of the project are:
- Avoiding ambulance transfer to hospital for an unwell resident
- A supported assessment where GPs ‘see’ the resident, rather than providing phone alone
- Treatment able to be initiated sooner
Country SA PHN will provide:
- iPads and Cisco Jabber software
- Training and supporting resources to staff
Cisco Jabber has the added bonus of being the software used by SA Health to link with Specialists for telehealth consultations.
